Ok so I have decided to get a job. But I can only work after 4:30 pm. I love baking and cake decorating. So I'm hoping to find something like that. I Don't know if I should call around to the small bakeries to see if they need any part time help or not. Any suggestions would be helpfull. I live in Utah and getting a licence for a home bakery isn't feesable right now. As far as i understand to have a home bakery here you have to have a basment closed off. We are trying to buy a house now. So in the future I can get licenced. TIA

Just call around and see if anybody is looking for part time help. You might also try a grocery store or Wal-Mart, I know that they are more of an "assembly line"type production, but it is decorating and it'll get you more experience.

Good Luck!

I AGREE I WOULD ALSO SUGGEST CHECKING THE SAM'S CLUB OR ANY OF THE GROCERY STORES.

In three days of working at a grocery store, I learned more than I did in 1 year working on cakes on my own.

Thank you all for the tips and suggestions. Just another question, do store bakeries decorate in the evening?

It depends on the store. I worked for the same company that owns Smiths out in Utah and different stores have different hours based on need.

I would suggest Sam's or a Wal-mart. The wal-mart I worked at always had a hard time finding someone to decorate in the evening and close the decoraing area. Granted it is an assembly line production, but I learned a lot of speed and a lot of quick shortcuts that I can use at home. It gave me a lot of time to work on the basics and now at home I get to play with the fun stuff.

I would also check with any small grocery stores (mom and pop or small chain) and see if they need a cake decorator. I had the opportunity to work at a small town grocery store and I could work whatever hours I wanted as long as the order were done on time. They would have let me come in at 11 p.m and work until 6 am if I wanted to (which would have been nice b/c no one else would have been there!)

I say don't rule anyone out. you never know what you'll find.
