Hi everyone,
I have been asked to make a baby shower cake for a friend and she would baby blocks. There are so many nicely decorated ones on this site but I'm not sure how to construct the actual block. The pans I have are a Magic Line 9x12x3 and 2 standard 9x9x2 square pans.
She will be having 20-25 people at the party.
Where do I start???

I did mine with three 8X8X2 cakes stacked, filled and frosted. I used a basic shortening and butter buttercream and chilled well before frosting. Because it is such a high cake you cut small pieces so 1 9X9X7 ( added an inch for filling) cake should be enough. Have fun!

You need to create some cubes so that involves figuring out how big or small you want the cakes. You can make some cubes smaller than the main cake. But it really depends on the look you are going for.

Having said that the sides should all be the same size roughly. You will need to so some stacking, trimming and filling.

8x8x8 cube = 4 cakes using the 9x9x2 pan.
You might not need to trim the ends because the cake will shrink a bit when it comes out the oven.

9x9x9 cube = 3 cakes using the a 9x12x3 pan.
Stack them and cut off 3 inches from the longer side. You can make some smaller blocks from the cake you cut off.

Hope this helps
