would you keep the candles from melting the cake?

This cake is really cool, but I don't get it.

That is a pretty cake! I would think that the glass votives(sp?) would get pretty hot too. Maybe they have em out from the cake just enough to avoid it? Jen

maybe they only light the candles just before the cutting and for a little bit to prevent the cake from melting. it really is pretty.

They do have battery operated votives out at Micheal's now...maybe they used those...they do not get very hot at all.

if they're not votives they could also be small tea lights in clear tea light holders.

They look more like tea lights to me. There is a "cakerator" here in Madisonville that has used votives on her cakes without a problem. I think the cake in the link is WAY cool!

I have little tea lights that are battery powered I use in a wall holder. They are about 1 or so in height. They put off a lot of light and almost look real because the flicker. Batteries are replaceable and they are fairly cheap. I would use something like that on a cake instead of a real candle.

I think this cake is absolutely gorgeous! I would love for a chance to create something like this.
