Does anyone have a good recipe for this cake?

Also someone told me I have to add red food colouring to the batter - is this true?

A very good source for recipes is epicurious.com It includes recipes from Bon apetit magazine and Gourmet magazine.

There are several reference cake books such as The Cake Bible

Black forest cake is normally dark chocolate cake with cherries.

The red food coloring is typical of Red velvet cake, which is a cocoa cake.

It's my dads favorite cake so I make one for him every year. I use a chocolate fudge cake mix icon_razz.gif and torte it with a whipped buttercream, mini choc. chips, cherry pie filling and kirsh spread between each layer. And topped with all of that too!
