Ok, since I'm the newbie - I only heard of the buttercream that wilton recommends the crisco, powdered sugar, meringe powder, flavoring, water.

Can you really use part butter to decorate and make the different flowers, designs, etc?

Thanks
Janet

Janet,
There are many buttercreams out there. You can find all kinds of recipes!! As for some recipes (like Wiltons) that use 1/2 butter 1/2 crisco, it does hold up well for decorating like an all crisco one---the main difference is with humidity and temperature. Here in TX, I can't use anything with butter in the warmer months b/c it does not hold up well and will melt off a cake!!

I often times use the 1/2 butter, 1/2 crisco Wilton's buttercream. It works fine to make decorations. Sometimes my hands will make it too soft, so I just stick it in the fridge to firm up for a little bit. No problems!

OMgosh! I was wondering if I was the only one with hot little hands that this happened to! LOL. I have this problem every time.
