I hate to ask a silly question but.....

Are cakes like these (bigger on top , smaller on bottom) carved this way or is there a pan for this kinda thing?

Any help/advise would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!
LL

There is a great tutorial on whimsy/topsy turvey cakes on this site. Check it out. I made one and it's easier than it looks.

I haven't done one myself, but from what I've been told by those who have, one way to make this is to make two cakes 1 inch different in size. Put together with the smaller one on bottom. Freeze and carve -- the two different size cakes make it so you don't have to take off a lot of cake.

if you go to the articles tab here, there is one about Topsy-Turvey cakes and how to get this look. There are a few ways it can be done, but the article here has great pictures.

That cake is so cute!

Thanks all! I love this cake, the decorator is a true artist! It is by "didi5", sugar shack has some amazing ones as well. I tried to pm didi5,but she is busy I am sure. With cake talent like that, I am sure she is in the kitchen as we speak! Heck, I want her to make MY birthday cake!! LOL

I never thought about looking at the topsy-turvey cake page! I thought that it would only show the tilted kind. Thanks for the tips everyone! CC is the best!

Actually at the 2006 ICES convention there was a company that had the pans that were suppose to do this affect. I'm not sure if they really worked or if the cakes baked evenly (that woudl be my concearn) but there are some out there. Just don't ask me the company name though.

I'd say that most of the ones you see though are carved and cut and doweled to create the cool illusion. icon_smile.gif
