If you don't mind..
My husband is the hardest person to buy for!! I got him a poker set for Christmas, and some stocking stuffers, but that's it. He's in the Air Force, so I don't know if anyone has seen the Military scrapbooks at Michael's, but I'm gonna use my 40%off coupon and get that. What the heck else do you get a man that's not a plasma?
And for you moms (or dads) of young kids, what can I get my 2 1/2 year old, and my 10 month old? Some of these toys are so expensive and I don't even know if they're worth it...so if you could post (or PM if you like) what toys you swear by for 12-24 months-ish..I would really appreciate it!!!!
I got Adrienne a twin time dollhouse and bought some room accessories, and a magnadoodle..but that's all I got. Can't think of anything else. SHe likes Cinderella, but all that stuff is so expensive, the Disney Princess stuff. Any ideas for her??
I really appreciate it!!!
what about the baby einstien dvds or vcr tapes? mine loved them at that age!! also the little people houses by fisher price..fisher price briarberry bears are popular at that age...they are teddy bears that come with clothes and such and are completely washable...and easy for little ones to do (change the clothes) sometimes you can find them for 10 bucks (cdn).
For the older one what about playdough (you could even make it) I think the little one would just eat it...
I found with all the princess stuff, they wanted it but once they got it it never was really used....
My girls also loved dress up clothes at 2 and my 8 year old still does!!
Let me know if you need some more ideas, I'll raid my toyboxes!!
Oh gosh, shopping for me, isn't it fun? Not! Any hobbies he might have? Tickets to a movie theatre, tickets to a game. Tools, daily planner. Gift certificate to a favourite store? I know, not easy, haha, socks, underwear, ties, how desperate can we get!

Well, I have six children myself, so I have bought every toy known to man. They play with the same things day after day--legos, the dollhouse, and art supplies. Those are "the" toys--if everything else was gone, they'd be fine with that. Since we have so many children, we usually get a group gift--one year we got the swingset, one year a tramploine, etc... Those Crayola Color Wonder paints and markers are the best--pricey, but unbeatable.
As far as your husband, they are always the tricky ones, aren't they? What about becoming members to a local zoo or museum for the year? That way you could visit all year long, even when money is tight it would still be a cheap day and fun for everyone. Also, you wouldn't have to cram the visit into one trip, you could break up the sites into manageable excursions before the kids have meltdowns.
Wow these ideas are great! I like the museum/zoo thing, but we're moving to Alaska in March, so a year pass wouldn't do us any good, but I love that idea!!
I was thinking of calling a couple of flying schools up in the Anchorage area, to see if I could buy him flying lessons ahead of time for him to use this coming summer. Even though he's Air Force, he won't ever be flying one of the planes, just refueling them (which makes the house smell FABULOUS) so since it was a dream for him to fly for the AF, I'd get him flying lessons. Not sure how expensive they are, but I didn't get him a birthday present, so maybe it could be a delayed bday present and his christmas gift.
Keep the ideas coming!! I love this site, I only posted this 20 minutes or so ago!! Thanks so much!!
PS. Squirrelly..I would get him a GC to his fave store, but that would be Best Buy, and we'd end up with something horendously huge and electronic-ish. LOL
Not electronicish, heehee! Good idea on the flying lessons!
I agree that the old standard toys seem to get the most use with children. I like those dress up bears, I think little ones love to do things like that. Arts and crafts things too like was suggested. Chalkboards and drawing easels with big paper sheets. And building things like Legos. When our neice and nephew's children come at Christmas time, we get colouring books, construction paper, drawing paper, safe scissors, Play-Doh, markers, pencils, crayons - age appropriate, puzzles and put them in giant Christmas sacks so they can put their things away.

102, that sounds decadentish!

It was that SC, it was. Although, the clean-up was a little aggravatingish!
Heehee, one of our traditions is to bring in a couple of garbage bags for the wrapped presents and to fold the gift bags as we go along, but boy you can hardly move.
Heehee with that many presents, you need a tree with no lower branches for about 3 feet, sort of a Charlie Brownish tree!

Or Woodstockish, then you could say your tree was feeling a bit peckish? ![]()

the kids all I can tell you is don't go crazy they don't even appreciate getting soo much stuff, specially at their age ... I've set a rule with my kids they each get three presents each ... I tell them Jesus only got three gifts so you only get three gifts ....remember family and friends will also be giving them stuff so they will end up with too much stuff anyway
