OKAY, if this sounds like a desperate question, it's because it is. I'll try to keep it short. I need to know if anyone does this and if anything actually is legit. I have checked into some ideas, but they all seem to be scams. I'm looking for a get rich with out doing any or little work plan, just HONESTLY need something that I can do to earn money to help support my family. I can not be the only person out here who feels this way. I love to decorate but it just can't work as an income producing sorce at this point in my family's life. I don't want to bore you with my personal details, we all have issue in this matter, but I just need advice on ideas that others of you have tried that DO work. I'll leave it at that and hope someone can respond. Thank you
It might be the cold medicine I took this morning, or I'm missing something....
what ideas for $$ making are you talking about? Or are you looking for some??
I think vitade is looking for something legit to do at home to make $$$. There are a lot of scams to beware of. Here are some ideas that worked for me that will cost you little or nothing at all.
Write an eBook about something you know and sell it. I wrote mine in one day back in february of this year and it's still bringing in extra income with little or no effort.
Start a blog or a website with a free provider (I use blogger) and become an Amazon and/or eBay sales associate (you link to products and if someone clicks through to buy, you make $ too). You can also place Google ads on the site. You get paid for the Google ads based on clicks. For Amazon, you get 5% of your sales. Not sure how eBay works. I applied and got accepted into the program but haven't confirmed with them yet. If your site becomes very popular, you can also sell advertising space.
I also know a lot of folks who do billing, accounting, medical transcription from home.
Sell on eBay.
None of the things I do are making me rich but they do provide me with extra income and I really don't have to do much at all.
Secret Shopping! I have a friend who applied for that. I don't know if she ever did it or not, but I think it would be a blast! I'm always critiquing stores and restaurants and would love to get paid for it! Check your yellow pages or the internet for local sources!

I know that all of the mailings and assembling "jobs" are scams. Pretty much anything where you have to send the place money first is a scam.
I'm a Mary Kay Consultant. That can bring in a good chunk of money sometimes. There's a variety of businesses like that. Pampered Chef, Southern Living, Avon. I also heard of a cookie decorating business, but I forgot where I saw that.
One of my wedding coordinators talked to me about her hiring a phone girl whose job is to call brides and try to sell them any of the services that the wedding consultant offers...for commission. She wanted to know if I'd be willing to fork over 10% for this girl to sell cakes for me.
There are two websites where brides fill out their information in order to be contacted by vendors. My jaw hit the floor when the coordinator typed in our area and there were literally hundreds of brides wanting to be contacted! And the same was true on the second site.
I will have to ask her the names of the websites again but it's something to think about. It's not even cold calling, because these brides have requested to be called! You could see if any wedding coordinators in your area are looking for a dedicated person to call the brides in your area to sell her services.
lisa, I'm not sure I understand exactly what you mean. How would I find out more about all of the things you mentioned? How do you write an ebook? Any information would be highly appreciated. Thank you
If you check out my blog Cake Fun http://cakefun.blogspot.com you'll see google ads in the right sidebar. I get paid whenever a visitor clicks on these. You'll also see a link under Icing On The Cake that says Cake Decorating Books. This links to cake decorating books on Amazon and if a visitor clicks through to Amazon using that link and makes a purchase (anything not just the books), I earn 5% of whatever they spend. I also promote products and books I like in my blog posts with links to those products. I call these shopping alerts and you can search my blog to see those.
Blogger blogs are free and really easy to set up.
There are people who have gotten rich via their blogs (David Lebovitz for one). He got his own cooking show. Others have ended up with cookbooks or other book deals.
To write an eBook, think of something you know that others might want to learn or read about. I typed mine out in Word and converted it to PDF. I sell it on eBay and email it to winning bidders. You can see the auction by clicking on my WWW I wasn't sure my eBook idea would sell so I actually listed it before I wrote it which is why I had to write it in one day ... someone bought one. I was sooo excited and everyone seems to be happy with it. I haven't had to give any refunds but I think offering a 100% money back guarantee puts bidders minds at ease. eBay was the best place for me to sell mine because I get to keep 90% of my profits and the rights to my book. Plus the technology I wrote about is in the midst of a lot of change and I'm able to edit/revise it frequently.
There are a lot of eBooks for sale on eBay so before writing one, it might be a good idea to make sure your idea hasn't already be made into an ebook. To see some eBooks in action, check Cake Fun's sidebar for a link called Free eBooks.
kellyh57, actually I have done the mystery shopping. I just moved less than a year ago and it isn't very big here. I would have to travel to far and not make enough money for the hassle.
lisa, Wow, I will have to spend some time looking at all you suggested. I have some kowledge of technical items, but will really have to learn alot to, I think, feel confident to do it. But I will definetly do some research, Thank you. It's sounds interesting.
llee815, I thought about these to and wondered if there was a website that many different would be listed at one. I've never heard of Southern Living, maybe that's located, well, south and if there was a cookie decorating one, that would be awesome, but I've never hear of that either.
I wonder how hard it would be to design your own at-home-parties. I've thought about this often. I just wonder how you go about getting companies to let you promote their products in a catalog. I bet you have to promise so many orders annually or something. We've all been to one type of party or another and know that sometimes people buy because they like the product OR feel obligated to spend suchandsuch amount just because were there.
You know my problem is I need a newer computer and faster service. I can see I need to do alot of reserch before I fall into a trap but, it takes me FOREVER to do anything on this dinosaur. Can't update without money, can't have money without a job. I just need to find a solution and I can't and it's just getting me down. Okay now I'm rambling. Sorry guys, sometimes I need to just type out my feeling whether anyone's there to read it or not. Just makes me feel like I got it out.
vitade,
That's okay if you need to rant. I'm in the same situation as you...and I'm sure we're not the only ones. Anyways, I found that cookie decorating business opportunity. It was in my Kitchen Gifts newsletter. Here's the link. I didn't really read into it though. HTH!

Another good home business is Tastefully Simple . It is package "gourmet" food that are easy to prepare. Great products. I dont sell it but purchase a lot from a client of mine. Not sure of the details, but might be something to check into. They have a website.
Thanks guys. I have to check into everything suggested really find something that will work for me and give it a try. Thanks llee815, I tried to stop before I got carried away. I know if I keep positive, I will find something. Thanks for the link, I will DEFINITELY check it out.
I have read lots of wonderful advice but thought I should share my experience. I was looking for something from home to supplement our income when I stumbled across Home and Garden Party (home parties). It cost me $150 to get started and the designer benefits aren't bad, but, I didn't do well after the first 6 months because I discovered that I am NOT a saleswoman. And, I also found out that there were lots of designers already in my area. It was lucrative around the Christmas Holiday but after that it really hit a slump. The other thing about that was the people calling and complaining about the product that you are selling, wanting to send it back and exchange it and you eat the shipping cost of it. Now this is just my experience, someone else may be very positive about their home party business. I do know that if you get into something you can always write your new pc off on your taxes.
I have stayed home and not 'worked' out of the house except for my home party business for 8 years. I help the family budget by offering a babysitting service. I charge so much an hour and have found that it is pretty lucrative. Sometimes it's a little stressfull but what job wouldn't be? It has been pretty rewarding, I have seen first steps, first teeth, heard first words and have had a drastic hand in potty training, ABC learning, and just plain giving and receiving love. There are a few kids that when they leave my house kick and scream and don't want to go, it melts my heart that they love it at my house so much.
You have to find some thing that fits you and your personality and your family. It is tough trying to stay home but if you have children of your own, it's really worth it. Don't let anybody kid you nobody is better at raising your kids then you are!!
Good Luck!!
