I'm not Catholic, but I am a Christian and I usually give something up for lent. Last year it was all sweets, this year specifically cookies and french fries!! My all time favorite. I need to do some tough love on myself because I've really been going overboard with the cookies lately...oreos, chips ahoy, vienna fingers specifically, and I've always been a french fry junkie. So I'm making the sacrifice. Lent begins on Wed, what are you giving up???

I don't practice... but my friend is giving up chocolate this year AGAIN! So, she's eating as much chocolate as she can before it starts...I told her that sort of defeats the purpose. icon_smile.gif
She's so funny though and will of course torture us with her, 'did anybody eat chocolate today?' and then proceed to ask us everything about the chocolate we may have had that day.

i had thought about giving up my sanity...too late.

then I thought about giving up my good looks....oops...way way too late

then there was chocolate -- but how can you give up the one and only major food group???

then I thought about giving up my twisted sense of humor -- but then what fund would life be...

so I finally decided to give up "giving up"

NOT CC's site. Maybe ice cream, no another major food group. How about Nagging. Yeah, dh is out of town most of the time and son still lives way up north, that leaves the dogs and cat and birds. I should be able to keep from nagging them. Seriously, I am just making myself eat as healthy as possible, no fried food. Have you ever heard of a cajun not eating fried food?

Well, I think I finally decided. My boyfriend is in Conn. and I am in Ky. Every day I ask him when he is coming home. Everyday is says..."soon baby, soon". After hearing that since Oct, well, he can stay in Conn. So for Lent, I am giving up....HIM. icon_lol.gif

And on the side note, I our priest said insead of giving something up, how about changing it. So instead of going to the gym, 1 or 2 days a week, I am going every other day. So I guess, in a sence I will ge giving up pds.

I am giving up soda..... icon_cry.gif

My family is Catholic and so we all got ashes on our foreheads on Ash Wednesday. My dad watched our kids that night because I had a meeting and the next morning, Gracie (our 3 yr. old) informed me that Poppie washed "her holy Lord". icon_confused.gif

I had NO idea what she was talking about so she pointed to her forehead and said, "My holy Lord....remember, we got the black stuff on our head yesterday??" icon_rolleyes.gif

Then when we talked with our 8 and 10 year old sons about what they were giving up for Lent, Gracie quipped, "Well I'm giving up going to bed early!" icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

We're Catholic too, and every year our family sacrifice is giving up eating out and prepared foods, as well as sugar and desserts. We actually should eat this way year-round!

But, we also do what I call "Lent Lite" which means on Sundays (which are always feast days as we celebrate our Lord's resurrection), we do go out to eat and get to have whatever particular dessert or carb-y meal we've been craving. icon_biggrin.gif

Here's everything you ever wanted to know but were afraid to offend someone by asking (LOL):

What is Lent?

The absolute most basic explanation is that Lent is the 40 day preparation for the celebration of Easter for Christians.

My husband is in Iraq, so this year, we're giving up my husband and my kids' father. I know he was already gone before Lent started, but the purpose of Lent is to give things up so that we focus even more on God.

So I guess this is not only giving up our husband/father - trusting him to God, but also realizing how blessed we are and appreciating what we have by feeling the loss of what we don't.

Wow, that is a huge sacrifice indeed. I know that the cross you are carrying is very heavy. Image
