I'm also a lefty, My Aunt taught me how to crochet
by sitting next to me in front of the mirror, I learned but you can't do everything in front of a mirror! I find the stick method for the roses the easiest to do,I do have to turn them almost upside down but it works. I have noticed one very important thing about left handed decorating. Because we have to do everything backwards and in some cases almost upside down,People are always asking ''HOW THE HECK DID YOU DO THAT??'' Some things are almost impossible for right handed people to re-create this makes our cakes rather UNIQUE! I kinda like that (ALOT!) ![]()
We lefties are very adaptable! I am an instructor and I always have my students sit across from me when we do flowers. Anyone play tennis? Off topic, I know. I think it is a real advantage to be left handed. The righties don't know what to do with us. I can't tell you how many times a player has said, you look like you are doing something wrong. I always just say no, I am just not doing something right! Sometimes we just have to think outside the box. We try really hard sometimes because many things are geared to a right handed world, but I think that makes us an interesting group of people who always put all of our efforts into accomplishing great things!

Is that shop still open or did it close ???
the funny thing is I'm ambedexerous (spelling) I tried doing both left and right handed. I could not make anything work right handed. My instructor was so frustraded because she could not help me. I was lucky there was another girl who was left handed so we worked together til we got it. The instructor said that next time she has a lefty in class she is going to call one of us to come to class to help with the lefty.
I'm a dominant lefty, but can be ambidextrous at most things. I had a right handed roommate that wanted me to teach her to crochet, and I ended up teaching myself to do it right handed just to teach other people. A lot of times, I learn to do things right handed just because that is how the person teaching me did it. If it's new, it'll be awkward anyways, right?
I hope I learn to make flowers both righty and lefty ways.

I'M NOT SURE ITHINK IT'S STILL THERE. I'LL TRY TO FIND OUT
I've just started cake decorating and haven't gotten to things like ropes and ruffles yet, but I do find it easier to write on my cakes from right to left (backwards). I have to use a transfer to do this, but it's the only way I can see what I'm doing.
I learned the right to left thing in school. I'd be doing a poster or something, and the marker would smudge as I went along.
So I started coloring from the right to avoid the smudge. I've continued when decorating cakes.
Did you know there is a National Left-Handers Day? It's August 13th, I think? If its not the 13th its somewhere right around there...
I never could get the hang of doing roses on a flower nail. I tried for years. But I tried the roses on a stick and did it THE FIRST TIME! I can't imagine doing roses any other way now.
How do you do them on a stick?
