Just looking into buying a silver cake stand (plateau) and wondering for a 14" cake on a 16" board what size for the stand? And just in general what size or how much larger, if any, should the stand be as compared to the board?

The base, board or stand should be at least 2' larager than the layer.

4' larger still looks ok if you have a strong border on the bottom, or flowers around the base.

I realize the cake baord the cake sits on should be 2" bigger. But If a 12" square cake is on a 14"square board, what size of a silver plateau would look the best?
