I'm doing the Lavable Dinosaurs cake from the Wilton Website for my son's 1st birthday next weekend. When i decided to do this cake, I hadn't even so much as decorated a cookie. icon_eek.gif But it looks like an easy cake, nothing more than some grass......color flow dinosaurs......volcano......upside down royal icing leaves...?? Should be easy for a beginer, right?? icon_rolleyes.gif

Anyway, so i finished Wilton course #1, but #2 got postponed, so my instructor gave me a quick 1 hr tutorial on Color Flow. The first brontosaurs was done with left over royal icing from class. Yeah, that's the worst one. the 2nd brontosaurs looks half bad/half good. I did the back half, and realized that the thinned color flow was still a bit too thick, so i put it back in and thinnned it out some more. icon_lol.gif So the front half is smooth, and the back half is rocky. The 3rd one looks really good. And the same for the T-rex's, i think they all came out pretty good for my 1st try. There's camera glare so it must be shinny enought!! icon_lol.gif

(Yes, i know i forgot the eyes. I forgot to save some white thumbsdown.gif I'll have to pipe that in with BC later.)

Very nice! Are you going to transfer this onto a square cake or are you using the 3-D cake pan? I have not learned the color flow process yet so excuse my ignorance here.

I love working with color flow, but mine almost always break when I take them off the wax paper. Even when I get them to the cake, I break them!

Your dino's are very cute!! Thanks for sharing them with us!! icon_biggrin.gif

I don't know if I can post a pic of the cake since it's on the wilton website.

The cakes are round, and the dinosaurs will stand up on top of the cakes.

The dinosaurs came out great! I love color flow. It is my best friend when it comes to writing and images! icon_lol.gif I am not an artist and I do not have nice wirting so anytime I can use color flow to trace something, I'm on it. thumbs_up.gif

The question about color flow being the same as flood work with RI... There is actually a product called color flow. It is very similar to RI but dries a little harder and you use basically the same technique but they are 2 different things. You can do "flood work' with either color flow or RI. icon_smile.gif

thanks for that pinkyEm, sounds good, I wonder if I could get it in UK, I will do a search because it must be great it being stronger than RI, less breakages, thumbs_up.gif

You can do them in royal. 98% of the ones I do are royal icing.

Great job on the dinos. My son would have loved these when he was "into" them. He's now at that age where he's embarrassed about knowing so much about them. When he was in Kinder. he knew so much about them, the next year (1st grade) his Kinder. teacher had him come back to her class to teach it.
