I know that in India desserts are sometimes garnished with silver leaf and there don't seem to be health risks associated with that. As Squirrelly Cakes mentioned, many of the luster dusts and metal dusts are considered edible in Europe, though they are considered only non-toxix and inedible in the US. Meanwhile, my son (and a bunch of other people I know) is very sensitive to all the artifical colors and flavors and a few preservatives that the FDA says are just dandy and for which there are studies showing that they can affect people's behavior. Go figure!
Thanks to Squirrelly for bringing more to the table about the FDA regulations.
We must understand what we are preparing when we sell it.
The fact that silver or gold dusts will likely never harm a fly is moot. The fact that there is FDA regulations against selling anything dusted with it as edible IS important.
We try so hard in this business, we only want the best for our clients. We only want the most attractive and fantastic cake. But learn my friends, learn all you can.

I found the silver dragees in a grocery store in Texas called HEB. They were pretty expensive but the bottle was a good size. They had silver and the rainbow ones.
I'd be happy to send you some $$$ including shipping to get me some of those if you would oblige????? Just send me a PM!!!!!!
