When my friend asked for 12 mini cakes I cringed since they are usually a pain. Someone on CC (THANK YOU) suggested making baby blocks. I thought that was a great idea since they would be square. So I think it worked out okay... although looking at the pictures I'm seeing imperfections that I didn't notice at all. I agreed to do these for $35 and as I was making them figured out I am making $2 an hour. The supplies alone were $20. I would have made them faster if I wasn't watching a movie with my husband, but still....

Anyway, thoughts for how to make them more square and even in size. I used a ruler, but really eyeballed it after the first cut. So that was my first mistake. The blue and purple weren't contrasted enough... but didn't bother me too much.

So what would you charge? (My friend by the way gave me $60 even though I didn't ask for it and she was soooo impressed. She thought I was just going to draw a picture of blocks on the cake, she said I went way above her expectations, so that was good).

i think they are very cute. the only thing that i could suggest, and it's nothing huge, instead of using a ruler, you could use a square cookie cutter. i've done this before, sorry no pics, and they all came out square. hope that helps. but again, your little cakes are really cute.

thumbs_up.gif Good job! They need to be more $.....that's a lot of work! I would have charged at least $5/cake....they are time consuming. JMO.

I think I'll pick up the comfort grip square cutter. I haven't seen a need for it before this....

They look fantastic, it is good that she gave you $60 vs. the $35, well deserved. People don't realize the cost or time that goes into these things when they don't do it, it isn't the grocery store airy cakes either, I think by most standards you should have got $75. Great work.

They are adorable and all those colors are nice they make me feel happy lol I think your original price was way too low they look like they were a lot of work as each one is unique and thats a heck of a lot of piping lol . I think your friend was on the mark with what she gave you as that's $5 a cake which is a reasonable price. IMHO
