I have just changed the color scheme pretty dramatically on my Thomas Cake Tutorial and need to know if it is pleasing to the eye. I can't look at it nonobjectively... so hoping some of you will!

Link is: http://thomasthetankenginecake.blogspot.com/

Before yesterday the background was all white, I decided I wanted a warmer look, but not sure if it works or not.

What's the verdict? Be as detailed as you wish, or just take the poll! icon_wink.gif

I love it. I think the neutral color makes the color in the cake stand out. Doesn't distract the eye to the background. You made a great chose.

I think you did a great job on the tutorial and find the background colour (warmish tan) very easy on the eyes! Very nice change and I have your tutorial saved!

Thanks again for sharing! icon_smile.gif

Well, I did not see the previous version, but this one is very nice. The colors in the background do not take away from the colors of Thomas, which is very important.

I would also like to comment that your tutorial is very, very detailed and thorough. Personally, I would prefer a tutorial that is this comprehensive over one with Any color background that does not give the information that you do.

Thank you very much for sharing this with us.

Absolutely fantastic tutorial, I have read it all the way through and it is clear and precise. the cake itself is fantastic and the face just out of this world.

Now I am going to put my criticism very very politely, and I would never never have dreamed of commenting on your background unless you asked. I think that there may be issues with the background colours, one in eight people are colour blind and the vast majority of those are red green colour blind. I feel that those people will see a yucky brown with the colours.

I do not wish to hurt you with these comments and they are purely my own view, and I could be wrong, but you did ask. Whatever you do please do not stop writing the tuts. This cake is far more advanced than my present level of cake decorating but I would feel that I could make it quite easily with this tutorial.

I'm a software programmer and one of the things that most people complain about is a white background. As long as it's not that stark white, it works great. And honestly, as soon as I went to your site, I was paying more attention to the tutorial than I was to the webpage. It wasn't till I came back to comment that I realized I was supposed to be paying attention to the color! I think your tannish/taupe color is just fine (maybe you could make it a tad bit lighter if you are not pleased with the color). Great tutorial. My nephew LOVES Thomas. I might actually try this for him one day.

As the mother of a boy who LOVES Thomas I think it is great, wish I had it last year trying to do his cake!
Also, about he color blind issue, I also asked my 6 year old color blind (red green color blind)son about the colors and he said he liked them, he told me all the colors correctly!
Just wanted to add his comments reguarding the colors. Perhaps he is odd but he did not have an issue with them. Great idea about the color blind issue though, we did not know he was until last year!

Wow, thanks for all the feedback! icon_biggrin.gif

I'm flattered that even a couple web designers had positive things to say. This tutorial is done on a free blog of all things. I played with the template quite a bit, but everything you see is self taught.

I know the Google ads don't help the looks of the site any, but since this is a free tutorial, I'm looking for any way I can to earn a small profit from my trouble. lol

If anyone else has anything to add, I'm ready to hear it. If you're more comfortable PM'ing me... please do. I've already had one person kind enough to point out a spelling error! Thanks!!!!! I really need the extra eyes scouring my site!

God bless!

I had your tutorial bookmarked before, and I think the colour change gives it a more 'finished' look. A very good choice of colour, soft and warm - I love it!

Love it! Your tutorial is just great. I've never used it, but think it would be a really fun cake to make. I never like an all white background.

Your tutuorial is great. My so LOVES thomas, but this year wants a Lightning McQueen Birthday. So I'm going to apply your words of wisdom to that cake. Thanks a lot, I even have it in my favorites!
I appreciate all the hard work you put into it.
