Sorry if this is a really stupid question, but do you use Americolor paste to color chocolate clay, and if not, what do you use? Thanks!

Yes, I use americolor, but I add it AFTER I have made the clay and let it sit. I have reasd on here that if you add the color while you are making it, it causes the chocolate to seize and ruins it. I prefer to color mine after i make it because i always tend to need differant colors, the Americolors work great. I know there are also candy colors you can buy.

I use it when I melt the chocolate. Once its melted I add the color then I add the corn syrup. It did not seize but the corn syrup is going to make it seize anyways. The Americolor should do fine. I did have a problem with the Wilton colors. I wouldn't use those.

I use the Wilton colors with no problem. I actually bought the candy colors to use but then tried the regular colors....no problem. Since the corn syrup is water based and will seize the chocolate some anyway, I just add the color to that before adding to the chocolate. I have also added it a little at a time after the clay was formed and it seemed to work...probably helped that I warmed it in the microwave first then added the color (it separates again when warmed). Beware when first mixing.....I found out the hard way that the chocolate must be very warm (i.e. just melted) when adding in the corn syrup. It mixes up very well then, and the chocolate does not lump as bad as if you wait. thumbs_up.gif
