I'm going to start decorating cakes. I'd like you to tell me what items I need starting out with. I already have the 29pc Wilton tip set, Sunbeam stand mixer ( I like it just as well as the Kitchenaid that I used to have and this sucker has more power and speeds than KA)...I also bought a 4 pc round Wilton cake pan set...What else folks? I'm using some of my tax return to fund my new "job".

Select a cake design, a get the materials to complete the task. It will give you a better idea of what you need. You could spend hundreds of dollars on things you may not really need.

If you don't already have a book, The Wilton site has many cakes, with a
complete list of everything you need to complete the cake design.

I agree with Joann. Start slow. If you are really serious, you will eventually want to have 2 of each of you most used pans, like 2 8" pans, makes baking much quicker to bake both layers at once.
I love the Magic Line pans, but they are kind of expensive. I have been slowly adding to my inventory.

I try to buy larger ticket items at Michael's when I have a coupon and can get 40 percent off or when Hobby Lobby has their big sale and puts all their Wilton on for 50 percent off.

If you're going to be making flowers, I would suggest a set of flower formers. You can pipe the flowers on waxpaper squares on a flower nail and then set them in the formers to dry. They'll dry with a slight curl to them. I use mine all of the time!
