What would you charge for character cakes using character pans and/or 3-D character pans - if you sold them?
the old me would have charged $25..then a girl who took the class with me told me she charged $55 b/c you CANNOT GET THOSE IN STORES...and so now i charge $45-$55..depending..
but just keep in mind those cakes are rare,...
Just be careful of licencing issues ... i.e. Disney images... when you buy the character pans, you are only buying to rights to use the image, not to sell it! There is another long thread about this issue somewhere...
If the character pans are not licenced images (i.e. generic teddy bear, etc) there should be no problem!
As for $$ ... I don't use the shaped pans (I just carve my cakes) so I don't really know! However, the same factors would affect these cakes as the flat ones ... regional pricing, your material costs, etc.
I just took a workshop in "costing your goods" and learned that most bakeries aim for a selling price of 3-4 times the material costs (i.e. add up your ingrediants and x3 or x4) that covers profit, labour, etc as a quick calculation. I expect the 3-d cakes would fall into the 4x category becasue of the extra work/difficulty.
