A friend says she wants to be my first customer - she wants a Grooms Cake for her daughter's wedding. 12" square basketweave with one 6" corner one layer, the opposite 6" corner 3 layers and the other two corners 2 layers (if that makes sense). One corner of the cake is taller than the rest of the cake. She wants a different decoration on each 6" corner - fisherman, race car, etc. The decorations can be the plastic type so that it easy. I don't have any idea how much to charge! She's a friend and it is my first "sale" cake so I don't want to charge too much - but I don't want to charge too little either because hopefully I will get new customers from the wedding. Any suggetions?
I would charge around $2.75 a person for the cake. It is reasonable and a touch below the going rate where I am.
congrats! isn't that the best feeling?? good luck and be sure to post some pics!
Welcome to CC and congratulations!!!!!!!!!
Pricing is such a sticky problem and a lot of CCr's will help you with that one! I personally would start at $30-$40 and go from there especially if it's for a friend. If she has people wanting to know who made the cake ask her if she wouldn't mention the price? I don't know, tough one. ![]()
Way to go! I can't wait to see what it looks like. I think pricing is one of the hardest things to get right.
mjs4493.....I agree with you. Of course I'm kind of a softy where my friends are concerned!
If she doesn't mention the price to anyone when people ask about it then that will be the best of both worlds. How great is it going to be to be able to stand around and listen to people comment on your cake without them knowing you!!! Congratulations!!!
Thanks for the congrats all! Yes - it is a fabulous feeling.
That's a great idea asking my friend not to mention the price I give her - she is a good enough friend to do that. Also, I hadn't thought about being able to hear people's comments without them knowing I made the cake !! I'm very excited.
