Using Scapbooking Things With Cake Decorating

Hi
I just wanted to share this tip, about using scrapbooking things for cake decorating, I just learned:
You can use the punches and diecuts and stencils as patterns for airbrushing or just patterns in general. For instance in the cake I just uploaded I used a round punch and a heart punch to airbrush ballons. Just punch in ordinary paper and you have a temporary stencil for airbrushing (using the negitive instead of the postive).
Hope someone finds that helpful !
If any one else was any ideas for using scrapbooking tools I would love to hear them. I don't scrapbook myself but my mother and sister do and I have access to their stuff.

you can adapt a lot of scrapbook items to cake decorating but I would and do keep them especially for cake decorating. You can use the punch machines to make cutouts in gelatine, a bit like confetti. I have used the plates to make tiles to do a cake board instead of covering it.
I have also used the scrapbooking stickers/die cut cardboard things in a pinch- most have small sticky pads that I use to attach toothpicks or skewers to stick into cakes- I also attach them to bows like the swiss dot wedding shower cake in my photos. That cake also had veils on the side- my Adirondack cake also has some scrapbooking stickers- the dress, rings, veil, and doves that are in the boat.
Here's my big tip. If you have a Michaels or Joanns nearby and have a coupon you can use, you can get a great deal on luster/pearl dusts! In the stamping aisle there are sets of twelve pots, the same size that cake pearl/luster dusts usually come in (these are 3 grams each, I think the cake ones are usually 2 gms in this size pot), that are non-toxic and acid-free, that I use just like the cake product. This product is called Pearl Ex. The set is about $15 with a coupon, which makes it about $1.25 per pot, pretty cheap! Joann's also has a set of 32 pots that comes out to $30 wiht a 50% off coupon-less that a buck a pot!
Scrapbookers and stampers use Pearl-Ex for stamp embossing.
Note: it seems to be the same product as the cake product, so there are warnings that it's not for consumption, just like they say about luster/pearl dusts. It's upto you to decide if a tiny amount will do any harm, if anyone actually wants to eat it.

I use the provocraft paper scissors to cut frilly edges on my fondant.
I have about all the different designs-- great fro making frilly edge bows.
Also glad to hear that about the pearl dusts used in scrapbooking. I have been thinking about trying them out on my own.
Wow, there are some really great tips in this thread!! I have a bunch of scrapbooking stuff already. I'll have to go through all my stuff. I know I have some plastic templates and cutters! Do you think the sugar will ruin the metal cutters though?
I already use scrapbook paper all the time for covering cake boards. I love the variety! Also, I really like those fiskars plastic templates. They make a really nice impression on fondant.

I have used the little patterned scissors for cutting the ends and corners for gumpaste pieces. I used it on the violet package cake in my photos for the corners on the tag.
Tetraz, I saw the paper crimpers and thought about buying them. I will have to get back there and get some. I sae them at the $ store. I was also thinking maybe I could take it apart and use the little rollers.
I also bought some rubber stamps, I was thinking I could use those on fondant for cookies.
I have several little gold stencils that I use to "emboss" on my fondant. (See my poinsetta pic). I found them in the stamping isle at Hobby Lobby. This is a great thread, I've got loads of scapbooking scissors I can use on my gumpaste and fondant!!! Thanks all you crafty cake decorators!!!

I was Very interested in wether or not you could really use the Pearl EX Stamping pigments that I called the company that makes them.
They said that their product eventhough is non-toxic it should not be used on food because their manufacturing plant is not FDA approved.
They do not have a steril invironment is the main reason.
The woman I talked to also said it was my call wether I decided to use the color on gumpase flowers that would not be eaten.
P.S. I also asked if they would consider making som pigments just for cake decorating.
