I baked three layers of almond sour cream cake on Monday evening for my son's birthday celebration at school. I let them cool for 10 minutes and wrapped them securely in saran wrap, with the intention of decorating after work on Tuesday and delivering to his school today. I didn't get to decorate yesterday due to illness, but thought I could do it this morning and still deliver to school in time for his celebration. Now his school is closed today due to snow and the cakes are still wrapped but undecorated. I never put them in the freezer. If I decorate the cake today and deliver it tomorrow morning, will it still be fresh enough? I was just going to use cookies and cream filling (smashed oreos mixed in w/ buttercream).

I had an edible image made for the top of this cake (yu-gi-oh). If I decorate it this morning, will the grease or color of the icing (red) come through the image? Can I refrigerate it w/ the edible image?

Thanks for any help you can give me with this!

Yes, you can decorate it today, and put it in the fridge with the edible image. It will be just fine, and none of the colors should bleed. The cake will be fresh tomorrow; but again, you should put it in to refrigerate until tomorrow. Then let it come to room temp before serving.
It sounds really yummy. Like I need to be thinking about more sweets today! icon_smile.gif

Oh, if you are putting an edible image on, you should do white icing under it, or the color of the image may change a bit.

you put the cake with the edible image on it in the fridge? Let me know how it comes out, I have never done that as I thought the condensation would warp the edible image.

Your cake looks great~ I wouldn't chance putting cakes with editable images in the frig again though. I put one in the frig one time. The image dissolved completely!! I think the moisture in the frig had to do with it dissolving. Talk about a disaster! Glad yours turned out fine! Love the writing & colors!!

This link talks about edible images, and how they can be stored.

That was interesting! I used whipped icing on that cake that the image dissolved. That might have been the problem & not the frig. Interesting!

I've done a couple groom's cakes with edible images, so I wanted to make sure I stored them right!

It's hard to know upside down from rightside up when you're storing cakes sometimes...depending on what is in them, what is ON them, and when you're serving the cake.

Good thing we can come here to get the voices of experience telling us better.

\\

How about you put it in the fridge, but keep the door open? icon_razz.gif

But seriously, jillycakes, it will be OKAY in the fridge.

I gar-on-tee!

Karen, I agree! CC has a lot of experience for sure!! I'm hoping to get a editable printer sometimes this year so that site helped a lot!
