Hi lovelies!
I'd really like to know how to do this:

You can also see it in these other photos:

Is there anyone out there who would be willing to do a tutorial to demonstrate the "wraps".
Pretty pleeeaaaaaase!
Thanks!
Beautiful cakes! The one with the wraps just look like it was done by placing offset circles of fondant on the cake...alternating left and right. I don't really know though...perhaps it was actually long panels of fondant that were actually wrapped around the cake!
I would agree with Mrs. Missey, even if that is not how these particular ones are done, it would work. The first one you would either start at the bottom or you could actually cover the whole cake with fondant and then a few inches up, start wrapping with wide drapes or swags - sprt pf half circles that you overlap on alternate sides, I would think there is a seam at the back of the cake.

My question would be WHEN would you do these? If I am trying to make the decorations ahead of time - before the cake was frosted - could I make them on a 'dummy' then switch them to the finished cake later?
Or would I have to make them on the finished cake itself, since they might not fit perfectly if they were dried?
would that keep me from assembling a cake at its location?
This is a good thread because I think a lot of us would like to know how to do this.

that was my first guess, if it isnt, I cant see why it wouldnt work!

I don't think that making them on a dummy cake would work to good...you risk breaking or rippping the fondant when transferring to the real cake. I think the fondant wraps would need to be done when you are putting the cake together..perhaps a day or so before you need it!
I would have to say I agree with Mrs. Missey. I haven't done a cake in this manner so this is only a guess, but fondant starts to dry once it is place and removing it and replacing it would likely result in cracking. Plus you are never going to be able to match how you hung the fondant on one cake, on another.
