I read somewhere on here that you can make roses out of Tootsie Rolls. How do you do that?

i saw that somewhere but can't remember.

basically you would do it like you would with fondant. I've even seen ones done with bubble gum and those fruit rollup snacks.

Soften them just a bit in the microwave oven. I tried these once, but I didn't have good luck. They were dry/cracking and very hard to work with (sticky). Others don't seem to have a problem. I'm not sure what I did wrong.

I've made them before. Nuke them so they are a little softer and work them so you can pull off little balls to flatten for petals. I made them just like candy clay, not like fondant roses. Fondant rose have too many big parts. I liked working with each petal, so much easier!

They're easy. Take a small tootsie roll and warm it up in your hands to soften, or microwave at 5 second intervals until very soft and pliable. not too hot, as it will burn your skin!

Make a cone like you would a BC rose, then take pieces of other tootsie rolls and warm them the same way. Then you can either hand-form the petals or roll it out and use cutters. The candy should be soft enough to stick together without any glue, but when in doubt, use corn syrup or cane syrup. If you want to put them into a cake, form the cone on a lollipop stick, not a toothpick. Lollipop sticks can be cut down with a kitchen scissor (no knife, the paper will fray!) if they are too long.

You can also use caramels and starbursts to make flowers. starbursts take a little longer to warm up. Do not put the caramels in the microwave, as they soften too quickly. If they are rock hard, they are going stale. Melt them down and make caramel apples.

I do not know where you live, but if you have a Party City store near you, they sell small bags of the different flavored/colored tootsie rolls, and they are fun to use, too! The green ones (lime) make great leaves. There are purple, orange, yellow, and red ones, too!

And send some pics when you are done!
