I run home every day to check on this site...is that wierd? I love the feeling....
but to answer a couple of questions....it does look like a hubcap doesn't it? It's just a huge silver tray from Costco that the lady had...so we turned it over and viola!!!
The cakes were filled and covered in orange buttercream...my new discovery....it was soooooooooooooooooooooo delish!!!
So then I poured Amaretto ganache over them and stacked and doweled and stacked and doweled...(I hate cutting those darn things!!)....then, for the first time, I hammered a sharp dowel through all the layers.....it worked like a dream! So easy....I was so scared of doing this but it turned out to be a piece of cake...no pun intended...
So, the other day I bought a Wilton ribbon/bow maker....just a rolling tool with different edges that cuts 3 ribbons at a time, equally.....and I thought...hmmm.....if I criss and then I cross...I will make perfect, equal squares......so that's how I easily cut the fondant squares....(come to think of it....if I cross on an angle, I will have perfect harlequin diamonds...)
they attatched to the ganache perfectly with no "glue" needed. I'm telling you guys....this one cake was like 10 Wilton courses combined....I learned a world of info.....mostly I have you to thank.....
i hope you guys get something out of it too....
Holy Cow!!! Is that ever nice!!! I couldn't even put a price tag on that cake!!! Way to go!!!
It is really really great. I am wayyyy impressed.
I love the cakes that have the things that POP out of them... They look so cool!
