Has anyone used fondant icing? I have just recently heard about it and I was wondering how people like using it and eating it.

Which "fondant icing". Rolled fondant, poured fondant or candy fondant

if you mean rolled fondant, a lot of people love how it looks but don't like the taste. my personal thought is that its too sweet (at least the home made stuff). so i always put a generous amount of BC under the fondant so if some one doesn't want to eat the fondant they can have the BC under it instead. it also has a texture that some people don't like. so play around with it and decide for yourself! some people love the taste.

also, try marshmallow fondant. i hear it tastes great, but i don't eat eggs (marshmallows) so i haven't made any.

as far as using it, i love to use it. it creates a look for your cake thats virtually impossible to duplicate with BC. perhaps you should look into taking the wilton course 3? that would be a great intro to fondant.

The fondant icing recipe I found was for poured fondant. Pre-made fondant was soaked in hot water for 15 minutes, remove the water and add corn syrup, lemon juice and glucose and heat in the microwave. It looks so easy.

Does anyone know how rolled fondant would do on a fake cake. I have a bride inquring about putting it on the fake portion as well. Does it keep like royal icing? I am new to fondant but what I have tried I like. Thanks.

You can put it on a styrofoam cake and use piping gel instead of buttercream. This is what they do at bakeries, and the cakes sit out forever. Hope that helps!
