Hi everyone! icon_biggrin.gif I have an order this weekend to ice 100 cupcakes with buttercream. The customer wants the star-tip swirl (like from a grocery store) on 100 cupcakes. I have no idea how much buttercream to make? Does anyone have a good estimate?

I have to drive to the location to ice the cupcakes, so if I don't have enough I have to go back home, make it, and go back to the lcoation. I haven't been doing this long, so I'd appreciate any help. Thanks!

One way to get a close measure: make a batch of icing, pipe a swirl about equal to one cupcake onto a piece of parchment or waxed paper. Weigh that, then multiply by 100 and round up to the next largest batch. Assuming you are not using a meringue icing, you can always freeze the left overs for a future use.

It depends how much icing you are putting on the cupcakes. If you like a 1/4 Cup...then you would need at least 25 cups of buttercream.

If you use Wilton Buttercream recipe and double it....you would need at least five batches of buttercream.

That would definatetly be enough. Then take home the left over icing for youself icon_smile.gif
