Donations are compensation, and the state/county isn't fooled by the distinction. If it's illegal to sell your cakes from home, that means you can't take any kind of compensation, including barter, including donations. My own health department rep told me that I didn't need a license to sell cakes to "people I know". It can't be friends-of-friends, just direct one-level knowledge. I am giving up my license next year and will be moving to only making cake for "people I know". ![]()
