I am very, very new to cake decorating. Have only decorated my oldest sons cakes for the past 5 years. Anyway, can you please tell me what color I need to use to tint icing a skintone color. I am making my youngest sons birthday cake and it has a little boy on it. I thought about using a little pink or red but I want to make sure!
Thanks for all your help. This has got to be one of the most informative sites I have found!!!

I used Linnea's Flesh color for my Caucasian baby cake. I used it also for my scarecrow.

If it's caucasion, you can use Wilton's Copper paste which is also listed a flesh tone (wonder if they realize how badly that sounds since not everyone has the same skin tone). Anyway, it's a starting off point and then you can add a little brown for darker skin or other colors depending on what ethnicity you're trying to imitate.

It is for a caucasian baby boy. I guess I should have explained that. Where is a good place to purchase the colors that were mentioned? The only place I have ever bought supplies (which will explain what a novice I am) is Walmart.
Thanks for the help and the WELCOME.

I also use the Wiltons Copper, you can make it as light as you need. It is a great color.

I love to combine soft pink and ivory for skin colors. You can always add more ivory for litle darker look and adding a touch of soft pink makes it more real looking

I like to use the flesh color in the Strawberry Shortcake or Dora packs, they just come out really pretty.

I made a flesh colored fondant and gumpaste by just adding a dab of brown. It worked perfect.

What I wouldn't get is the Wilton skin color precoloured, because it seriously does not look like skin color.

I agree. This is what I always use, just a small amount of copper and it looks great. I used this on my baby cake on my site at: http://cakespace.blogspot.com/ if you want to take a peak. icon_wink.gif
