Opinions Please? This Is Missing Something...

I think this came out really good, but it's just not quite right yet. I was going to finish it tomorrow, but there's a storm a-comin' so I want to delliver it tomorrow instead. I hate being under a deadline.
The only thing my husband said about it was, "What are you going to do with the windows?" which wasn't much help.
It's the log cabin, I think - it just looks kind of... off.
Help!
What about a chimney with some smoke coming out?
Is it a FBCT? It looks really good. It looks like those pics that are painted on round saw blades.
I think it looks great...including the windows. ![]()

I ditto - chimney w/smoke
It is FABULOUS though! It reminds me of these small handpainted bowls my mom used to scour art festivals for... beautiful work!
CHIMNEY!!!!
Duh! Thank you, cakeladydi! (And others - ya'll post FAST.) I've been staring at this picture too long to see that.
It's not exactly a FBCT, but kind of... I made an 8'' round icing slab, smoothed it nice with my roller and froze it. Then I made some really thin buttercream, colored it and I painted the frozen icing slab with a paintbrush and with my spatula like it was a pallet knife. When it would start to thaw, I would just pop it back into the freezer for 15 minutes. It was really fun, and I like how it came out.
Thanks!
i ditto the chimney. with the smoke off to the left. it's a BEATIFUL picture! Nice job!
First off let me say this looks great. What might make it look a little off to you is that it is weighted to the right. From an art point of view this means all the dark or heavy colors are on one side of the picture drawing the eye to that side and giving it that 'off' look. If you place something on the left hand side of equal darkness it will even out the picture. Perhaps placing a small section of drk brown fencing on the lower left would help. Again I really like the look of this.
Definitely some smoke on the chimney. The windows look like there is a fire glowing in the fireplace, smoke would just complete the look. FABULOUS JOB!!!! ![]()
Sorry gang I'm going to disagree with most of you. (But that is okay - right?)
IMO the chimney idea is too cliché. Just finish it off with some type of lovely edging. Nowhere in my art books does it say the picture has to be balanced equally and the image weight perfect. Having everything to the right is fine also.
Edited to add: Matter of fact, adding smoke going to the left is contrary to how we actually read a picture and would be disruptive of this lovely design.
Thank you all for the feedback.
On the one hand, a chimney is a nice touch on a log cabin. On the other hand, there comes a point where your work is just fine and you're dangerously close to messing it up by trying to "fix" something.
I'm going to put the cake together tonight, and depending on my mood, finish it with or without any changes. My anxiety comes from finally charging what a cake is worth instead of giving away more than what they pay for. I want to make it PERFECT - it's a sickness.
how about some fishies in the water alittle ways away from the bears and maybe part of a sun in the top right??

What a great idea......I had thought of doing just the same thing for a naval emblem I did, but wasn't sure it would work out. It sure would have taken the pressure off getting it right, at the last minute.
Channelling Bob Ross, I see. This is a great piece of work. I immediately thought of an oil painting.
Sometimes less is more, and in this case, I would say definitely so. If you want to add a border, think of a muted green perhaps, something a little darker than the plaque, to tone down all the blue on the left.

Was Bob Ross the guy on public television that "taught" painting? I just watched him the other day. I always called him "The Tree Guy" because he did the BEST trees!!

PS LOVE your pic I've e-mailed it to my oil painting instructor. She's HOOKED now and wants to paint on a cake for our last class. YES, I'm baking a couple fo 4 inchers to play with!!
Yes, Bob Ross is the man who taught/teaches painting on PBS, mostly landscapes. He passed away a few years ago, but lives on through reruns.

Is that water? I thought it was snow. It looks like an empty cabin covered in snow with the sun reflection on the windows along with bears cubs playing and mom bear nearby.
This is cool, snow or water.
I'm sure that this is more than what your client ever expected. It's a scene, a possible memory, not perfection. You are not working with oils, so you cann't nick pick it to death. It will never get finished if you keep adding things. I mean there could be a fly fisherman, a wood stack, a hunter, etc. You could go on adding till you loose the look you intended. Don't get too detail unless you get big bucks. Just my opinion. Both my husband and son are artist and they say the same thing, if they want detail, they will pay for detail.
I think it's very nice, and all it needs imo is your signature. Very nice.
