price for bride and groom cake topper's..

I would like to pick all your brains about bride and groom topper's.. this is something i hope to specialise in, in the future...

i am more into the funky modern figure's like the one's i attempted below, so my question is, once i perfect them what is the average price you would be willing to pay for a Sweet_as_tisse wedding cake topper?

thanks guys

Without knowing how long it took to make it, as a completely ignorant bride looking for a custom cake topper I might expect to pay between $40 and $50

Hi melysa

these took me a day each to do, the groom's clothes are fiddly and the brides hair takes time....

I was hoping for a ball park figure of about (once i get them up to standard) $50- $60 each Australian dollars.. (am i dreaming..lol)

thanks

oh australian dollars....I couldn't help you there hun. Im in san antonio tx...far far away. I hear our cost of living is lower than a lot of other places. That may be what I would expect to pay here (4o to 50)but your community is completely different. Good luck. You may be able to fetch what you're wanting for each piece.

gumpaste?

i think what you are asking is fair. hopefully you'll get the time down as well once you do them more often.

would they be custom (to look like the couple- matching clothes, hair, flowers etc...)?

you could probably get more if you could do that!

i think australian dollars are less than american dollars, so it doesnt sound expensive to me at all.

the toppers are made from my gumpaste recipe, and yes, i would more than likely make them in the brides colors, flowers etc.... as well as matching eye and hair color..

I am new to cake decorating so I would have no idea how much to charge but they are super cute. I could see them on a really cool cake.

Hi Kylie,

Cake Deco in Melb sells the bride and groom toppers for about $60.00 a pair. However, custom made ones are about $70 a pair. They are about 4" in height. How tall are your toppers?

Barbara

P.S. Your toppers are really cute. I love how they are so pretty and shiny!

Kylie,

I charge from $160 for a bride and groom topper, usually they take me about 4 hours to make, give or take, so I use that as my base price and go up from there. The Shrek and Fiona bride and groom in my photos took me about 12 hours to make, unfortunately I didn't realise how long it would take to get the faces the way I wanted them icon_cry.gif .
I think $50 or $60 Australian is a rediculously low amount to charge for something that takes you 2 days to make, the crappy ones you can buy from cake deco stores start at $60+ and they are cheap and mass produced.
Yours are original, one of a kind creations, you should charge accordingly. thumbs_up.gif

i think they look great and really well done. You need to make sure you charge enough for your time. If its taking you 2 day to do them you need to charge more, enough to cover your costs and hourly rate.
Custom made ones should be even more.
cheers

Thanks guys,

I would not expect someone to pay me for something like this if it was not up to scratch so i will definately be spending a lot of time and energy getting these little guys looking fantastic in every way before I attach a price tag to them. its great to get a rough idea of what a reasonable price would be and to hear good feedback from everyone here only give's me more confidence to make and sell them....

You are all the best cake buddies a girl can have..

I took a course in cold porcelain specifically to make figurines. My teacher sells her bride and groom (customised to the clients needs) for $200 Canadian.

I modelled myself and my husband for my own wedding cake a few months ago. I put in a ton of detail and by the time I was done with it my teacher said if I was to ever charge for it she would ask for $800.

I decided that it takes too much work, and no one would ever pay me that money. A couple of weekends ago some friends were over and looking at my figurines and they urged me to sell them. They said that if someone wants it badly enough they will pay the price you ask for it. Don't sell yourself or your work short! I know how time consming and fiddly it is. You should be compensated fairly for it.

Here is a link to it and along wit it are some other wedding pictures. I am pakistani and my husband and I wore traditional clothes. So thats what I dressed the cake topper dolls in. The dolls were wearing exactly what we were including the turban I got my husband to wear. (he took it off during the evening though).

My husband is a video game programmer so the doll representing him is holding a playstaion controller and the doll representing me is holding a cake.

Thanks Courtney

so that he will stand on his own, you need to space his legs and feet into a certain position and allow it to dry. i proped him up against something for a few hours to hold the position....

He did fall over in the end but next time i will make sure i dont move them around to much when they are drying, he lost his balance and i didnt place him back in the same position.. (my kids kept trying to touch them)....

Easily $50 - $60 each. GO to www.bakerysugarcraft.com and have a look at their prices. The prices are quite high for cake toppers. SO dont feel bad about charging a lot for them.

kylie, i can't help with the pricing, but i think these are the cutest little things! are they keepable? meaning, will they remain as is years later? i would tend to pay more to have the keepsake than to have to worry about it getting ruined, going bad, melting(?), etc.

ps, we have the same birthday!

In the area where I live you could easily charge $250+ for those. Adorable! I love the soft colors!

jescapades, yes they are keepable, I make them out of modelling paste, which dries hard. they would need to be kept in a box of some sort to stop them from fading etc...
