Which do you recommend for a beginner to use? Also can you ice your cake with icing first then cover with fondant, I want to say I *think* I have seen that done before. Thanks again
Amanda
i agree...MMF is great, easy to work with, cheap to make and taste delicious. Plus you can get the colored marshmallows to keep from having to color your fondant
. The premade stuff, my 6 year old daughter told me, and i quote, "it tastes like melted plastic". so i would say go with the MMF. hope this helps.
Great thanks I got a recipe from here to try...It was just water, marshmellows, and powdered sugar. This will be my first attempt, wish me luck!! HeeHee
I would try the pre-made stuff first so you can get a feel for proper consistency. I tried making fondant first, but had no reference to know whether it was the proper wetness, consistency, etc.
My vote is for homemade MMF too!
It tastes better and is cheaper. It's also easier to work with. (at least I thought so)
If you do it by hand, I hope you have been working out. heehee
I used my KA and it gave it a good workout!
I agree with everyone else use MMf it's is cheaper around .70 $1.00 for marshmallow , and around $1.50 for the conf. sugar. or less fondant arrange from $6.99 to $8.99 depending on the color. I also like adding different flavoring. I have made almond and candy flavoring bubble gum ( really yummy). good luck
I did not like making MMF, it is pretty sweet too but that doesn't really matter. It's suppose to be. It was hard for me to get done.. took a lot of time. I love love love Satin Ice though, taste and the way it works.
I vote, again, for making fondant from scratch. It is hardly any more difficult than MMF, tastes a lot nicer than MMF (isn't screaming "MARSHMALLOW!!" at your taste buds) and isn't as extremely sweet. Otherwise, both are as easy to work with. I'd just as soon have something that tastes good rather than save the extra two or three minutes (literally) of extra work scratch fondant takes.
But I know that's not a popular view around here ![]()
I've not tried Wilton because it's insanely pricey in Canada ($16 for 1.5 lbs) and it seems lots of people think it sucks flavour wise.
