So I really want to try making booties from MMF for a baby shower cake i will be doing in a few weeks. I have found the templates and the tutorials which seem very helpful, but i have never even made MMF...

does anyone have any suggestions/advice for me?
i have never done this before!

do you have to use egg white to connect the different parts of the bootie or is there something else that can be used?

thanks for all of your help!

Hi, for "glue" just use water or some extract, I wouldn´t use egg white, just in case someone wants to eat the booties.

Now, with MMF, you´ll be surprised on how easy it is to make that stuff, just follow the tutorial they have here on CC and it is super simple. The only thing I can tell you is to look for play doh consistency and it is OK if you don´t use the whole 2 lbs of Confectioners Sugar. Let the fondant rest over night, this helps with any sugar lumps and the texture improves big time. HTH and good luck.

Hi there. I agree with everything nefgaby said. I always use water with a paintbrush to attach pieces. Start with as little water on your brush as possible, you can always add more if you need to - too much can make your pieces slide around and not stick to each other. Your MMF will get very hard overnight. If you put it in a plastic sandwich or freezer bag, and then microwave it just until it is warm.....it will make it pliable and easy to use. You may need to add shortening too. Good luck, remember to post a picture!

I used MMF to make booties....it didn't work MMF is just too soft for this. I suggest to use real fondant.

When making booties out of fondant, it is best to use some Gum-tex or CMC/tylose which will make harden faster and it is better to model with.
I can't get my hands on CMC so I use gum-tex with very good results.
I wouldn't make them without it.

HTH

Cute booties!!!! Did you add gum-tex or tylose to your MMF. The booties I made won't stand up. It was flat as a pancake!

I know this is not the question you asked, but I just did a Baby Shower Cake last weekend and made Baby Booties out of cupcakes. They were simple and a big hit.

Thanks mariavictoria. I didn't add anything to the MMF. I think I kept the MMF thick enough that the booties didn't cave in on themselves. Not really sure what I did right.....it was my first time trying the booties!

I made booties for a shower cake over the wkend. I used wilton fondant & egg white as suggested in one of the tut. It was super easy & held the pieces together great. When the person picked up the cake, I informed her that the booties were very hard & I did not recommend that anyone eat them. She said she didn't even think that they were edible. The booties were a big hit & I will make them again!
