I just made a cake with MMF for the first time. I was just curiuos what it was like after hearing so many rave reviews. This is only my 2nd fondant experience (the first was with Wilton's ready-made thumbsdown.gif yuck!). I really liked the MMF but I have an issue....When smoothing the sides of the cake, I don't know how to avoid "folds". Here is a picture of the folds I'm talking about...these are the smaller ones since I try to make the photos of my cake as good as possible!! icon_lol.gif It just seems that there is too much fondant, and when I smooth the sides it bunches up and makes folds. Is there a secret to avoiding this? Or am I just missing something?

TIA
LL

You are most likely the only one that noticed the little folds..we are so critical of ourselves!! Anyway, next time you cover a cake with fondant..put the cake on a cake board that is just slights smaller than the cake, then apply yhe fondant..the fondant will practically smooth itself of any wrinkles..use the cup of your hand to gently smooth the sides..the heatfrom your hands really helps with this!

Also, make sure that when you cut the length from your fondant that your cutting it enough. Too much fondant will make it fold too. You'll figure it out after I few cakes~ I finally did!

another thing I do is make sure it's thick enough .. fondant that is too thin stretches out and makes folds like that for me too ... I smooth mine down, trim, smooth, trim ..
