Does anyone have or have you used a clay gun for fondant?

I have found some by Sculpey and Loew Cornell, but wasn't sure how well they worked. Anyone have any opinions? They say they are made for Polymer clay, but was hoping they would work for fondant too.
Thanks so much
Teri

Yes I have one I bought from Beryls' and I love it! Here is the link to it. This is also the cheapest I can seem to find a good reliable one for.

i bought one for polymer clay at michaels for 5 bucks. the trick is (drum roll) to mix it the fondant with a good amount of vegetable shortening so it is nice and pliable and then push it through. works great! i tried it at first with just plain fondant and thought it was a horrible waste of money, then i saw duff on ace of cakes mixing with shortening, and so i gave it a try. viola. it works no matter how cheap the extruder is!!!

I also had one of the "cheaper" 5.00 ones. It worked well too. But then my dd's decided to use it for other items "to see what it would do" and I just bought a longer lasting one for me and let them have the cheaper one...since it was used on non-edibles. icon_rolleyes.gif

I also found it in the clay and molding department, mine is green, with about 10 differetn disks

Thanks again!

I am glad I saw this post because I have been thinking about purchasing the extruder from Michael's as well. Hi Adriss - I am in SD too! I just looked at your photos and your cupcake towers are beautiful. Very impressive.

I bought an extruder about 2 weeks ago. Can't wait to try it on a real cake. I love that blue cake in your pics, that is sooo cool.

Do yourself a favor. If you work on a lot of fondant decorated cakes and will be using the extruder a great deal, get a large one. Maybe not as big as the one Duff used, but bigger than the Sugarcraft Clay Gun extruder. I have it and it works wonderfully, but you have to reload it so often it becomes rather tedious. I thought I was doing myself a favor and ordered mine from the UK (turns out it cost the same as Beryls.com).

If you want to get the cheap one at Michael's and see how it goes at least you won't be paying into a large investment. Also if you decide after using that one to get the large one, you'll have both and again, without spending a fortune.

Just MHO and wish I had done it.
