Thank you everyone! For the booties, I started with a 3 inch roll of fondant and bent up one side of it to form the ankle of the bootie and just started sculpting it from there. The onsie I cut out from a pattern that I had drawn on paper and added pieces to it around the legs and collar. I knew that they would take the onsie and booties off before eating so i went ahead and used real snaps.
LOVE this cake!!!!!! Are the snaps real metal? I wonder if there was a silver candy or icing you could use for snaps to make it all edible. That's good you knew they would take it off first. :-)
Beautiful cake. Another idea for my sister-in-law's upcoming baby shower. Thanks for sharing this. Just so others know, you can get a silver powder, which can me mixed with lemon extract or vodka to make a silver paint, which would make completely edible snaps. I used some on my wedding cake, and it was beautiful. It looked like real silver. However, I don't think anything could look more real than an actual snap, like you did.. Stunning work. I love the booties, especially. :)
