Dave's Bday Cake
I saw the cutest golf bag here by Surina and thought it would be a perfect cake for one of the guys I work with. i bake birthday cakes for all of them, and since he is a golfer, and was the one behind what the guys got me for my birthday (a complete set of golf clubs that were at the base thrift shop. nancy lopez clubs, love those guys) i wanted to do something a bit different. it is eight 6x2 layers, alternating chocolate pound cake and butter pound cake, covered in a chocolate buttercream and michelle foster's fondant recipe. i still need to work on the fondant technique, and making it. but i am fairly happy with it. even the couple of places where the elephant skin started just added to the feel of it being a used bag. thanks for looking, and any ideas, helpful suggestions are very welcome! oh the gold balls are fondant. just got too lazy to make clubs.

White Square Wedding Cake
I made this as a gift for my son's friend. White Velvet on the bottom layer with raspberry. The middle layer is White Velvet with Ovaltine Frosting inbewteen, the top layer is the same as the bottom. I had one design in my head, but as I started the fondant work, it designed itself. The draping has a bit of the "elephant" skin going, but it adds to the fabric effect, and people thought it was suppose to be that way. Oh yeah, my first real wedding cake. The flowers were added at the last minute and I think it pulled the whole thing together nicely.

Happy Birthday Jakob!
the original request was for an airplane. the mom sent me a pic of what was on her son's tshirt he was going to wear, too much red in the fondant, and the no taste doesn't make it red red. then it warped to an f18, then it warped to a toy. to me it looks like a tonka toy jet that i remember my brother having when i was a kid. enough to feed 40. the wings are white vanilla cake, and the body is a yellow butter. the wing span is so wide i had to use a piece of foam core for it. (yep i got carried away.)

Optimus Prime To The Rescue
For a very long time I had no idea what a FBC was. So one day I actually figured it out. This is my very first attempt at a FBC transfer. Not too bad considering my head was killing me at the time. It was for my son to bring to work the next day for his birthday. I see all the imperfections, but no one else seemed to.

A Formal Affair
A Sgt. I work with came in one day "Mom!! Guess what? I'm getting married!" (No he isn't my son, but I have been given the title of "Platoon Mom" I listen to them, and give them Mom type advice.) Followed up with, "And I got orders to California, then Afghanistan." (My heart sank at that, I do love these kids like they were my own, they are all in the same age range), followed by, "Will you make me a groom's cake?" How could I say no? Dark fudge cake, under white chocolate frosting, with rolled cookies, and formally dressed strawberries.

Retirement Cake For Cwo, Usmc
Our Chief Warrant Officer retired and I decided to make her a cake. My second cake done in fondant. The interior of the cake carried the colors of the Marine Corps. Marbled gold and scarlet. The gold was a yellow butter cake with a bit of paste color added, and the scarlet was red velvet, with only 1/2 oz. of maroon paste coloring. I prefer letting the natural chemical reaction to give the red in red velvet, and minimize the amount of food coloring.

Llighting Mcqueen, My First Fondant/sculpted Cake.
Let me give you a brief explanation. I used to decorate cakes back in the 80's. Never really got great at it, life got in the way and I HATED fondant, it tasted like crap. Fast forward, my son asked for a Transformer cake like he had when he turned 5 for his 30th birthday party, an 80's themed party, and his friend Laura was having a birthday too. So I made the Original Optimus Prime, and Rainbow Brite. One of the Sgts. asked if I could do a Lighting McQueen for her son, (she saw the son's cake which was all buttercream). Sure, no problem. And I decide to make MMF, and ended up with this. Not knowing how to work fondant, I went by the seat of my pants. Not bad for a first ever try with fondant.
