I need to make heart shaped cake but don't have a heart shaped cake pan and would rather not have to buy one.  I have seen some pictures online where you take a square pan and round pound to make a heart shape.  Like in this picture.

Has anyone done it?  It looks like it should work fine but it is for a client so I need to make sure it ends up looking good.

TIA!

Sure have.  It works just fine.  Once it is iced one cannot tell a heart pan was not used.

I suggest you trim the edges of the sq a bit so the 1/2 round fits perfectly against it.  Put some b'cream on as a glue to hold it together.  (Notice in the pic one side does not fit snug?)

I made a number one cake using a square pan. Worked great! Here's how you cut it to get the shape

A fellow CCer showed that to me. Once you've iced it, no one can tell it was once a different shape!

Very cute for those who do not want to buy a heart pan.  I am presuming both the square and round pans have to be the same size (like both 8 or 9 inch pans).

You are right.  Remember if using anything bigger than 8"ers it will be a very big heart!
