how do i make these stay on the cake?

Hello,

I have a wedding cake in a couple weeks and have been racking my brain about how to do this. I am putting together a 3 tier cake and on the cakes there will be A large belt of clustered pearls wrapping around the cake half way up ( about 2 inches thick) and then scattered a little on the top and bottom of the belt. I have stuck plenty pearls and flowers to cakes before but none At this amt of pearls piled so close together? I really need help! Please!

Thank you, Dangirl

Dangirl, do you have a picture that is similar to the cake you're going to be doing? I'm picturing a fondant border with pearls on them, right? You can stick them with piping gel, if that's the case....

BY hand! :(  With tweezers :(

The b'cream needs to be fresh (not crusted) in order for those pearls to stick.  I have even put a very light/thin coating of piping gel or honey over the b'c.

^^^^^Oh yes.  I hope you charged accordingly!

I made a cake similar to the one you have to make.  I painted on Karo corn syrup directly on the fondant and pressed them on like sprinkles.  then I took a dry small paint brush and neatened up the edges and used tweezers to place large dragees in the holes that were left.  I made a big mess even though I did everything over a BIG square cake pan to catch all the runaways.

I've seen something like this done in a tutorial once. She cut out a strip of fondant to the shape of the band she wanted the pearls arranged in. She placed the strip in the fridge to harden a bit , then brushed the strip on one side with edible glue. She had a long tray of pearls. She dipped the stripped ( gluey side face down ) in to the tray and pressed to have the pearls stick. She then applied the strip on the cake with edible glue. I don't remember if she allowed the strip to dry a bit before she placed it on the cake . Hope this helps!

Does anyone else see a bunch of random letters and symbols instead of an actual reply here? Maybe it's just my phone.
