I sent a little 'press release' type thing to my local newspaper along with a photo, which they printed a few weeks ago:
Then the reporter got in touch and asked if she and a photographer could come round to do a larger feature? Sure!!!
A couple of direct quotes were me replying to questions - not like I brought it up in conversation. But it's a nice piece and certainly can't hurt my business?

That might work - apparently did for you - in the UK but..........here in the US you had better be a licensed business or you are in for BIG trouble :(
Well... I was included in a small article/listing thingy in the local newspaper a few years back... I got a call from the authority saying they couldn't see me registered! I think they were looking for my business name, but the officer had registered me in my personal name! Fortunately, there was no problem whatsoever with that. But whilst you ARE allowed to work from home in the UK, you do still need to register with your local authority and they come and inspect your home and ensure all necessary paperwork etc is completed (they consider cake-making a fairly low-risk activity in terms of possible health problems to the public... as long as you don't use cream! Then it's a whole other ball game!!!!! Therefore, my local authority only come and re-inspect me every 2 or 3 years).
There are LOTS of unregistered businesses, I'm sure. 
And if they're not registered, you can bet your bottom dollar that they don't have public and product liability insurance, either.
