AHello!
I'm looking into getting and edible image printer, and while researching, I couldn't really find any up to date advice. (Google was pulling up threads from cc from 2005!) I just want to know the ins and outs of edible image and best (but cheap) printers for this. Looking for a purchase of this for the holiday season!
All advice welcome :)
All I know about it is that the local cake supply evidently uses DecoPac inks (they had to install at least one new cartridge just before printing my speed limit sign for my parents' anniversary cake) and probably their media as well.
go with icingimages for all your supplies and I love my canon ip3600 which you can also get from icingimages.
Thank you for the recommendation KoryAK! Breeshme, please let us know if we can answer any of your questions about edible printing.
Hello Icing Images, quick question. What do you think of a Canon printer MG5320?? I just saw it on sale at Staples and I'm thinking on buying it.
AHi! Icing images… Have you heard of anyone using the Canon Pixma MG8220 all-in-one printer? I have read alot of good reviews but none from the cake world? Also, do you have refills to fit this unit. There are 6 tanks for this printer. Thank you, Lisa
Hmm. Interesting concept: put a photocopy (or a fax) onto a cake, without even having to turn the computer on. Although it does seem like overkill.
(Pity that nobody has come up with edible xerographic toner, or edible Microdry ribbons!)
I bought mine the backwards way. I went on a site and printed out what printers their ink would fit then went to Staples and ordered the printer. But that's before I knew about the good people at Icing Images.
Hi, With edible printing, you want a pritner that has the individual ink tanks, but you only want to use a pritner that uses the fewest possible cartridges. The fewest cartridges available on the market with individual ink tanks is 5 (two blacks, cyan, magneta, yellow) The printer you mentioned uses an extra cartridge which is overkill in the edible industry and that is the grey cartridge. There are plenty of other printers such as the Canon mg5320 that uses the 5, is a lot less expensive and produces excellent quality. With the MG8220, you are buying more printer than you need and you are also and will also continue to buy more ink then you need with no additional benefits for edible ink. I hope this is helpful to you!
