icon_cry.gif I can't believe what has happened. I entered the cake decorating contest in my county fair. I spent hours making fondant and royal icing flowers and working extra hard to make sure my cake looked just right. Today I go to the fair and notice that they put the wrong tag on my cake, instead of "decorated cake" they put "chocolate cake". The judges ate my cake!!!!!!!!! I find the judges and confront them, they say, "We thought that it was in the wrong catagory, but we have to judge on what's on the tag, it really was a blue ribbon cake, we hope you enter next year." !?!?!?! Can you believe this? If they thought it was in the wrong catagory they couln't have checked the registration form? Would they have checked if they would have cut into the cake and it was spice, yellow, or even styrofoam? The real kicker is, I won 2nd place for chocolate cake!!!!!! I kinda feel bad for the ones in that class since I made my cake from a box!! I literally cried all the way home; all that work down the drain!

Oh Baby Sugar! So so sorry. I also have battle scars from poorly handled competition type things. Smarts.

Just a real shame but congrats on second place--that part's a real hoot though.

I'm so sorry! I know how much work and pride goes into these things.

A great reminder to myself to check the tag when I leave my cake at our fair.

I cant believe that happened although from what I have heard fairs can be poorly run. Congrats on the win even if it wasn't from the category you entered. That is just so very frustrating!

Oh my gosh! They didn't judge you on your decorating abilities? But you won 2nd place with a cake mix? When you weren't supposed to be judged on the way the cake tastes.

That is just unbelievable!

It's such a shame that one person's error caused you so much unhappiness after all your hard work.
Did you take a picture of the cake before the mishap? Maybe you could post it up here and we can all tell you that it's first prize material!! thumbs_up.gif

How ridiculous! They couldn't check ANYTHING? Next year - make it out of styrofoam - that'll be quite a shock if they try to cut into it - and if it wins first prize, you can keep it to show people who didn't see it at the fair icon_smile.gif

Sorry that happened, If I were you, I'd consider writing them a letter because that's really a dumb excuse. It would have taken them one minute to double check the entry, especially if it was nice and decorated, and the others were not. Yes, it's human error, but ignorant as well. They should have known better.

How disappointing and upsetting. Sorry this happened to you.

I took one of my cross-stitches to our local fair. They had given me the wrong label to put on it. When I went to hand it to the needlework co-ordinator she said "Sorry that can't go here, it belongs in the cake decorating section."

It was fully framed and in no way resembled a cake.

I should have licked it to show her how daft she was. icon_lol.gif

What kind of judges were those, that can't even tell from a decorated cake and one for tasting? OMG so if they put a knitted scarf with a chocolate cake tag on it they would eat it? Don't you feel bad Queen those morons wouldn't know better anyways, cheer up darling!
