Hello everyone,

This weekend we will be having an early Thanksgiving family reunion, however it will be a very special one as my siblings and myself live in Canada & my Mother lives in Argentina, she is currently visiting us for a few weeks, however this is her last visit here as she has Cancer & has recently found out that it is spreading... There has been alot of family issues however all siblings have come together & want to make this time the best we can. I will be doing a cake for this weekend but my head is not wanting to co-operate, I have just started doing cakes for about a year or so, so I'm not that good, however I would love to make a cake that will really touch the family... I do not have an edible priner so that is out of the question I guess... Does anyone have any ideas... The cake will be feeding about 30-40 people. I would like the cake to really focus on my mother & her 5 kids & how much we love her.. I'm sorry I can't write anymore, as the tears keep coming.. Any ideas will be appreciated.

Thank you for listening icon_smile.gif

JoviGirl,

How about a 9 x 13 cake with a heart cake on top of it, with a simple 'We Love You Mom' message on it? Done up with some pretty flowers, and made with your love, I think that your mom would love it.

Jovigirl, I'm very sorry to hear about your mother, this will be a special family reunion for you...

How about a "family tree" cake? You can make them as complex or as simple as you want, you can make them on a big sheet cake or make them nice and little... just search the gallery for "family tree" and a bunch of really great ideas come up.

I'm sorry to know of your mother's illness. Prayers are with her & you.

If you look through the 'Mother's Day' cakes or the "Mother's Day" contest cakes, I'm sure you will find many wonderful ideas in there. I saw one with figures of people around the sides; maybe do something like that using the figures for each sibling?
I'm sure this reunion can be very happy as you will all be together.
Good luck and always remember happy times.

Here's the link to the pics of the family tree cakes. I hope that can give you some ideas.

My heart goes out to you and your family. No one can ever take the place of your mom. Enjoy her while you can. Not a day goes by that I don't think of mine.

My heart goes out to you and your family!! Thankfully everyone can get along for your mom's sake!!

If you wanted to put photos on the cake, you could cover them with clear contact paper to keep the grease from seeping through.

Good luck to you, your mom and the rest of your family!!

I will pray for your mother and your family and you!!!
Have you thought of putting together a sheet cake or a large round cake that has all your mothers favorite things on it? Maybe her favoriate activity, or her favorite flowers with her favorite color. Have all the kids names on the sides of the cake?
I hope this helps with the ideas.
I feel your burden and God bles you and your family.
Remember that God is with you.

Jovigirl, so sorry to hear about your mother's illness. If you really want an edible image of the family, see if there's a store in your area that will make it for you. Our WalMart or HEB or Albertson's will scan the picture & print it for about $5.00 for an 8x10.

God Bless you & your family at this time!

I am sorry to hear about your mother.

Maybe a cake decorated like a family album, then you can scatter family pics around the cake.

Here is a cake I did for my father's 80th bday and it really meant a
lot to him.

It is two sheetcakes stacked as decorated books--a family album and a Bible. but if that is too much cake you can do just one.

I'm so sorry to hear that. You are in our prayers.

As far as ideas.........Do you have a Pic with all of you in it? I have something you can do, but you won't be able to save the original picture. So this will work if you can get a copy of the pic.
Frost cake , let crust, Enlarge pic to size desired, cut parchment or wax paper to fit under picture. Put down a dab of BC on the edge of wax paper to secure to cake, Then lay down photo on wax paper. Then border around photo. Depending on printing paper the frosting could bleed. You'll want to keep that in mind when you get your copy.
I hope that makes sense, I'm NOT good at explaining things. If you have any ?, don't hesitate to ask.

I'm so sorry to hear all of that!

Is there something near & dear to your mother that you could incorporate on the cake....along with letting her know how much you all love her?

I'm sorry I have no ideas, and I can't imagine what is going through your mind, just try to make this the happiest time you possibly can and give lots of hugs!!!

Thank you again everyone!!! I like the idea of having pictures on the cake board... I had asked my Mom before flying here to bring as many pitures as she could from when we were younger... Maybe I can do a collage of some sort around the cake... Now if I could come up with an idea for the cake itself??? Bump...

Even if you don't have a printer, you could send a picture (or pictures) to one of the places online and have an edible image printed, and put a family picture (or pictures) printed onto edible paper . . . and then incorporate that into some of the ideas mentioned . . . . family album, family tree, etc. You could decorate the frame around the edible image(s) . . . .

I'm very sorry to hear about your mother, but this is a wonderful and special thing you are doing for her.

I am very sorry that your mom is ill.

As for ideas...I really liked the scrapbook idea that someone posted....what came to my mind first was doing some sort of family tree..with a little twist.....maybe combine a mother's day type cake with pictures or charms that represent you and your siblings??

You know they have those wedding charms that they do for bridesmaids??? I dont know just throwing out what came to mind first.

show us what you come up with, Im sure it will be beautiful!

What about a quilt cake....a cake that the top is patterned with squares like a quilt. Have each square decorated differently with each family member's name on a different square.
