Here are a few pics of a cake I did for a friend from the office. She will be going on maternity leave pretty soon. She really loved it. I think she liked it a little too much. She said it's too pretty to eat and she might have it bronzed her hubby suggested shellacing it. It was too funny. She even warned him that he has to make sure he drives really slowly and carefully on the way home if not she will have to hurt him.
Cake is chocolate with chocolate buttercream icing.
One of the big honchos in the office saw it and he wants to know if I can make a cake for his son's 1st Birthday. To serve 90 people and something to do with race cars.
This is my 1st gift box type cake like this. I will post more pics in my album
Very Impressive! I would have thought you had done many, many of these! It's simply beautiful! (I agree with the mom to be....to pretty to eat!)
Sounds like it has drummed up some more business too!
Congratulations!
Sherry
SOOOOOOOOOOOOO perfect!
Please tell me how you support the top of the box. I'm making my daughter-in-laws birthday cake the end of this month and it is a jewerly box.
I would really appreciate experienced help.
Thanks,
Sheri
This is sooo pretty. The fondant tissue looks so thin. Great job. I'd love any tips you have to share. Congrats on the new business this brought you.
How did you make your tissue?
I simply rolled out small pieces of fondant and rolled them really thin. Used my spatula and carefully lifted it on to the edge of the cake. It gathered naturally because it was so thin. I used some tissue paper to support it only it was somewhat set in place.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOO perfect!

Tip number one: Don't leave the box lid until last minute LOL.
To make the box lid I did the easy cheating way. I cornstarched my inverted cake pan and then rolled my gumpaste out. Cover the pan with the gumpaste and then trim the sides to the desired length. Then build your bow on top of the lid use equal parts of meringue and water to attach the pieces.
I have a 8x8 cake board underneath the lid. I had to bend the edges down. The cake pan had rounded corners
I suppose you can place trim your board then constarch it before placing your gumpaste on it. My lid was not totally dry and it needed a bit of support so the chopsticks I used to keep it suspended would not poke a hole in the lid.
Do you have a KA pasta roller attachment to get your fondant or gumpaste that thin?
I used my wilton mini fondant rolling pinr the one that has the spacers on it. I removed the spacers and rolled it as thin as I could.
That is a beautiful cake! I'm going to start the Wilton III class this week and the whole idea of fondant makes me nervous?
Thanks Zamode.. no cookie strike....
Sherik you will be fine. Don't worry if you have more questions just ask.
Greenhorn you will enjoy it.
Thanks subaru.... but it smelled even better than it looked.

I really started having a serious interest in cake decorating about 2 years ago. I dabbled with it years prior to that. I grew up having the most elaborate cakes every birthday so that's part of my inspiration. My aunt and godmother used to make my cakes and I would watch.
Thanks Stefy
Any time Lilie
