I am in early stages of pregnancy...wouldn't you know it I have an aversion to anything sweet - especially CAKE. I hate even to type the word. I've been avoiding this site b/c I am so nauseous looking at sugar in any form. Anyway...2 months ago I promised my sister I'd make her son a bday cake.... it is not upon me. I FORCE myself to smell butter and sugar while I make the batter this morning... I get sick - have to rest. Then I finish it up and get ready to put the cake in the oven... OH what's this? There is no heat in the oven...The bottom burner won't turn on IT JUST BROKE icon_cry.gif . So I put a cookie sheet on the very top and the cake at the very bottom and BROIL on low for 4 hours!!! The top is CRISPY burned..the middle is SOGGY and won't even come out of the pan. I call Wal-mart to ask if they can sell me a totally unfrosted cake. Just the actual 'cake part' is what I want. This RUDE lady tells me 'No we don't do that'. I say, "I understand you don't do this normally, but I'm asking can you sell me a cake the same price you would normally, just don't frost it". Even ruder she says, icon_evil.gif "No we won't do it'. Goes on for 4 minutes. I ask her for her supervisor that she can't possibly be the last word on this bare cake. She puts me on hold FOREVER and I hang up pissed off. Then I call Albertsons.. they are happy and wonderful and nice and will do this immediately for only 8.99 for a quarter sheet cake - I am thrilled.

BUT I am still irritated, nauseous and annoyed. I had to make a cake last week...It was chocolate...I DESPISE choc right now... Ican't even look at the pictures or talk about it....

What a horrible day. icon_mad.gif

Sounds like you're having a tough time! When I found out I was pregnant with my third (a surprise!), I have already committed to making christmas cookies to sell with my sister. I, too, had an aversion to cookies and candies and it was sheer torture to bake those damn cookies. And I made a ton of cookies. I used to wake up at 4am every morning having nightmares about cookies. It took a good year before I could eat or even think about a cookie.
Good luck with your cake..That was a really good idea to get the unfrosted cake!

Walmart is pretty rude from their bakery to their lawn & garden section...UGH!! LOL!!!

Yay!!!! You're gonna have a baby!!!!!!!! Oh, just wait until later....you'll be wanting to do cakes.

Maybe you should tell everyone that since you're pregnant, you're just not up to doing cakes.

good luck with your pregnancy and here <handing you a few clothespins> you might need these!!

I know what you mean. I had an aversion to meat and that was 43 years ago. Haven't eaten it since. If your micro has a convection to it you bake your cake in that but not in the metal pans.

Congrats on the pregnancy! Wonder if you can "amend" your username on CC? Later, you might want to be "Parisand(fillinblank)mom"! icon_lol.gif

Best of luck, and keep us all posted on how you're doing. icon_smile.gif

Thanks everyone!
...the smell of icing is the WORST!!!!! I can't believe how I used to like eating cake. OMG I can't even say the word anymore. I bought powdered sugar and marshmallows b/c I have to finish that cake for my nephew... I have to store them in a double sealed bag on top of the fridge so I don't see it or smell it until I HAVE to.

icon_sad.gif I'm so sick...

Hope your morning sickness is better. If it is still imparing your decorating use a painter mask it should cut out most of the fumes and you can get them at home depot. I use one when making soap due to the lye fumes.

I didn't have a problem with the cake part when I was pregnant, It was the delivery part that made me sick!! Every time I got in the car to deliver a cake I had to stop a couple of times on the way there to be sick! YUCK!!!

Congratulations!!! I wish you all the best with your next baby!

I was pregnant with twins and had to go into the hospital from being so sick. Couldn't eat, couldn't drive. But after 3 months it got much better and I could enjoy that time. Believe me, this will pass and the cake bug will be back! Congrats on your pregnancy.
