I am making the ice cream cone cup cakes for a party this weekend and was wondering which tip you recommend to use to make the frosting look like it was custard on top?

Please define what you mean by "custard on top"

sure, you know when you get an ice cream cone, with the vanilla or chocolate custard, not regular hard ice cream the soft served, well I wanna make that look on the cupcakes.

Does that help? I don't think I was clear enough.

I would use a 2B which I think is the biggest round tip available. The other thing you might want to try is to just use a plain coupler, and if that's not big enough cut a larger hole in your bag and use it without a tip.

Don't use a plain coupler. There is a little opening in it that makes a square stripe protruding down the side of your piping. At least the Wilton couplers are like that.

I have the ones without that opening so that's why I mentioned using that.

If your talking about the soft served ice cream I would use the 1M tip. That's the one I use about 90% of the time.

I just used a large star tip when I did them for my son's class.......gave the look of mcdonald's soft serve if that makes sense......not just a smooth strand of icing.......more textured, looked just like mcdonald's though...everyone thought they were real ice cream. One of the kids' mother asked me what I made for the class because her son hates ice cream (hurts his teeth or something.......crazy kid lol) and he came home and said Jonathan''s mom made ice cream cones and they were awesome.....I love ice cream now!!! LOL.....she couldn't figure it out....he only loved MY ice cream
