A week or so ago someone posted a picture of a "fun" cake that was fondant covered and shiny. In the comments ~ she told us what she used to make the fondant appear that way. I have spent the last 30 minutes scanning the pics looking for this cake with no luck. Does anyone remember this cake or what it was that was used on the cake?

Thanks
Debbie

Do you have anymore details of the cake? Round, Square, Color?

I don't think this is the one you are talking about, but I thought I would check anyway. If its not, if you have more info I will gladly help you find it.

I don't remember the cake but I remember reading that someone used luster spray. Is that it?

Thanks everyone for your help. The cake was brushed with something. I think it was a round stacked cake and I remember reds and pinks (i think). It was one of those "i'll have to remember that trick" but then it slips your mind. I made a cake yesterday afternoon for last night and used black fondant on it. The fondant was drying as quickly as I was rolling it out. It looked a bit wrinkled and not the rich black it usually does and I was hoping to brush it to at least make it look "black" again. The cake turned out fine and they were happy with it - but I wasn't. If we're able to find the trick - i'll remember next time!

Thanks again!

I think I remember the thread. Didn't she use edible shellac? I know you can get that at www.chefrubber.com.

Here's one Debbie...not sure if it's the one you're looking for but it was made by TexasSugar.

That's not it but it's very pretty! I'm beginning to wonder if I imagined it!

Thanks!
Debbie

if my mind isn't failing me i think i remember little pieces of rolled fondant that looked like candies but were all hand made from fondant on it. i remember thinking it looked like too much work!

you could try going to galleries and then click on recent downloads/uploads and then scroll down to see pics that are organized in reverse order (most recent 1st)...sometimes going thru the pics again may jog your memory of the cake you're looking for.

There's one like that in the V-day contest gallery.

i'll take a look. i went about 10 pages back in the recent uploads and didn't see it. I think I was in a hurry so I could fix the cake I was working on and maybe just wasn't seeing it.

thanks!

I think Lisa's right...I saw the cake I think you are looking for in the contest. I don't think I'm allowed to post who's it is, but was it the one that was topsy turvy? The rest of the cake is pink and red & the top layer is gold.

thanks - i'll take a look but if there was discussion as to how it was made shiny i don't think it would have been in the contest - of course i could be getting my cakes crossed icon_surprised.gif)

There's the possibility that it could have been moved into the contest gallery.
