Its really simple -- buy a piece of the plastic cross stitch canvas -- mesh should be a large one -- roll out gumpaste to the size of the top of the cake - place gumpaste on top of plastic canvas and gently press down, being careful not to move the gumpaste. Took a couple of tries but it was worth the effort. Sprinkle the canvas with a light coating of cornstarch or icing sugar to keep paste from sticking.
