Groom's Cake

Groom's Cake on Cake Central

This is the cake I did for my husband. I tried to get him to let me do something that would show his personality, or a hobby, but he kept insisting he just wanted a yellow cake with chocolate icing. Well, I couldn't have that, so I had to embelish just a little. The leaves and scrolls are chocolate, and were so much fun to make. I'm not good with cornelli lace yet, so I pretty much just squiggled some lines on top. My cousin added some baby's breath for a little extra decoration. hehe

They were easy to make, actually. I had a very hard time finding lemon leaves where I live, so I went to a local forest and got some rose leaves. They gave them to me for free, since it was once they were just going to throw away. When I told her what they were for, she just got a weird look on her face and kind of sneared, and said well, you're going to wash them first aren't you? because some of them fell on the floor.. haha I was like um.. yes, I'm going to wash them first. silly people..

Oh, apple and pear leaves work well too. Just about any leaf that grows on a plant that produces edible fruits or vegetables is ok to use.

Looks great. I saw this cake in the 2007 wilton wedding cake book. Were the leaves and scrolls difficult to make? I am thinking of making this for my future son-in-law

Nice cake, chocolately :) Mmmmm. Cornelli lace is hard. I've tried it a few times, and I've scraped it off a few times too!
