Bottom cake is a 9 x 13, and top grad cap cake is a 4" round. Mortar board is made from gumpaste, diploma and "class of 2007" banner is made from fondant. Pages were added after the book covers, and embossed with a pizza cutter.
I've been a buttercream only gal, wanting to learn about fondant. So bear with me, are the pages a strip of white fondant added after the fondant book covers? And, can I ask how you got such nice dark colors? I have had trouble with that. Thanks!
I'm glad you guys like the cake. Thank you. Yes, the pages are a piece of white fondant added after the book covers. For the dark rich colors I use Americolor. For the Burgundy I started with brown, you can also start with red, and added red and violet.
what an absolutely fantastic cake, luvbakin! My son just graduated from college; what an idea to celebrate! (wish I was farther along, and could actually DO something like that!)
