Molded Roses

This cake won the celebration cakes division at the state fair. I made a mold to mold the roses for the top. Rope and tassle made with clay extruder. Two layer vanilla cake with buttercream and fondant.

Yes ~ it was the Timonium state fair! Were you there?

...no, just taking a guess, but I have been there many times!

A co-worker had met someone that told her she entered several cakes every year at the fair. My co-worker asked if I was going to. I'd never thought about it. I entered the county fair in two divisions and won! I was so excited that I entered two divisions at the State fair and won them too! At that time i'd only been decorating less than 1 year.

This is a beautiful cake! How did you make the mold?

thecakemaker Says... 9 years ago

Thank you! I found a plaque at JoAnn's and used a molding compound to press it into to make the mold. I used the mold to mold the fondant. It was easy really.
